Here in NC, they're killing every coywolf hybrid they can find, in an effort to "protect" the red wolf, whose genes are in the coywolf hybrids. They are choosing this, but their choices are not good enough for us.
I agree that the speed with which this is happening may be a problem. Or it may be the solution. The Permian and Cretaceous extinctions took millions of years to rebuild. What if our rapid redistribution and equilibration of species is a good thing? Would really love to see some responsible modeling on this.
I don’t see your point. The spread of invasives often actively contributes to the extinction of local species. Invasive species are often generalists, and bulldoze through the niches formed in a specific ecosystem. “Rapid redistribution” means, in this case, homogenization. Like the homogenization of language and culture, biological homogenization means the loss of the specificity, the unique species, the unique ecosystem balances, the different perspectives, that make up the rich whole of nature
